Why does CRUISE-MATE work and the original equipment thumbwheel doesn't? If you've used the original Harley-Davidson thumbwheel throttle lock you know it's very difficult to adjust so it holds the throttle in place where you want it and if you have to release it in a hurry, forget it. The reason for this is the very fine pitch of the threads on the thumbwheel stud and size and configuration of the thumbwheel. During our research and development stages of CRUISE-MATE we knew the final product had to be a lever, which was easy to access for on and off control. We attempted to work with the original threaded hole to avoid having to drill out the switch housing. After several attempts and many different configurations of the CRUISE-MATE lever we realized there would be no effective way to utilize the original Harley threads and make the product work in a way we felt it should. Using our failures as lessons in "what not to do", we decided, for the throttle lock to work we had to increase the pitch of the thread which, in turn would increase the vertical movement of the friction shoe with less rotational movement of the handle. The result of our efforts is what you see on our website today, a very functional, lever operated throttle lock that looks great with black or chrome handlebar controls, operates as easy as your directional signals and will last and look great forever. We could have manufactured the handle out of low cost materials and chrome plated it, however, we decided the product should last and look as great as the bike it's mounted on, so we decided to manufacture the entire device from 303 Stainless Steel and polished 303 Stainless for the handle. We're very proud of CRUISE-MATE and are confident you will enjoy it as much as we do on our bikes. |
